Location of Drößig in Brandenburg

Drößig ( Lower Sorbian Dŕazg , or Drězg ) is a district of the municipality of Heideland belonging to the Elsterland district in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg . The village of Drößig, south of Finsterwalde on the northern edge of the Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft nature park , has around 190 inhabitants.

history

Drößig, first mentioned in a document as "Dresk" in 1364, presents itself as an elongated rural village with the main houses facing the street with their gables and pieces of garden and meadow behind the courtyards. A few orchards have survived. The relatively uniform appearance of the village probably results from a fire in 1847, which destroyed the majority of the farmsteads , which were then rebuilt in a fairly uniform style. Until 1937 the place was called Drössigk , after which the National Socialists changed the place name to Drößig for ideological reasons .

On May 19, 1974 Drößig merged with the neighboring Eichholz to form the Eichholz-Drößig municipality, which merged with Fischwasser on December 31, 2001 to form the Heideland municipality.

Culture and sights

Noteworthy is the neo-Romanesque church built in 1897 ; the exterior appears as a red brick building. 100 years after the church was consecrated, the Drößiger resumed the church's long-disused bells. The village image is also shaped by the stately linden trees, some of which are marked as natural monuments due to their age. On the village meadow there is a memorial that was erected in the form of an obelisk to mark the centenary of the Battle of Leipzig and the 25th anniversary of the throne of Wilhelm II . The town's war memorial is in the cemetery.

In Drößig there is a volunteer fire brigade and an association of village women that regularly organizes village festivals. The old school in the village now houses the Heideland day care center, where around 20 kindergarten and after-school children play.
