Dr. Schär is a manufacturer of food and nutritional supplements for the diet of celiac and metabolic diseases. The company is headquartered in Burgstall (South Tyrol) . The Dr. Schär AG is the parent company of an international group of companies, which also includes the German subsidiary Dr. Schär Deutschland GmbH counts. The company's shares are family owned.

Beginnings

The name Dr. Schär goes to the Innsbruck doctor Dr. Anton Schär, who began to produce baby food in 1922 in collaboration with the Bolzano entrepreneur Gottfried Untertrifaller. The Untertrifaller range included gluten-free products such as Dr. Schär rice cream , recommended for digestive problems. Until the 1970s, the small company still produced largely manually.

Historic packaging

The Merano-based chemist Ulrich Ladurner became aware of the topic of celiac disease and the need for gluten-free products in 1977 when he met Klaus Pittschieler, the head of pediatrics at the Bolzano hospital and specialist in pediatric gastroenterology, on a television program to which both were invited Nutrition. Diet for chronic renal failure

Under the brand name Flavis , Dr. Sharpen a range of low-protein foods (bread, pasta, sweet and salty pastries) that are suitable for the diet of chronic kidney failure in the predialysis stage.

Nutrition for congenital protein metabolism disorders

The Mevalia brand denotes a range of products designed for the nutrition of phenylketonuria and other protein metabolism disorders. In the Area Science Park in Trieste, Dr. Schär is a research and development center. Prizes and awards
