Coat of arms (seal)

The Lords of Dražice (also: von Draschitz ; Czech: páni z Dražic ) belonged to a Central Bohemian family of the lower nobility who named themselves after the Dražice Castle . They used a golden branch of a grapevine with three leaves on a blue background as a coat of arms.

Numerous members of the Dražice family served the Czech kings and the Church:

  • Budivoj von Litowitz (also: Budislav von Litowitz ). He was Canon of Prague since 1264 and called himself von Litowitz ( z Litovic ), after the castle of the same name in Unhošť . In 1276 he became provost of the chapter monastery in Mělník . 1296–1298 he was dean of the Prague cathedral chapter. Although he was ordained priest, he was married and had four sons. Three of them chose the spiritual class. The following are known by name:
    • Gregory of Dražice ( Řehník ), was court official Ottokar II Přemysl and the queen's chamberlain. He built the Dražice Castle.
    • Abel from Dražice and Trojan from Dražice . They were canons of Prague and canons of St. George in Prague Castle.
  • John of Dražice , owner of the Dražice estate and nephew of the Prague bishop, moved the town of Benátky to a hill on the opposite side of the river around 1340 . In memory of his uncle, he founded a monastery of the Lords of the Cross with the Red Star there .
  • Johann von Dražice , son of the above. He was cantor of the Altbunzlauer church. After the death of his brother Beneš, he left the church office and managed the family fortune. In 1383 he was appointed the highest land clerk. With him the dynasty of the Lords of Dražice died out. John's property went to his son-in-law Beneš von Choustník .
  • The relationship with John II of Dražice , who was Bishop of Prague from 1227 to 1235, is not documented.
  • The mother of the Prague bishop Johann III. was born from Dražice.

  1. According to the given web link, he is also said to have been a son of Budivoj von Litowitz. Since it is stated in the cited literature that his mother was born von Dražice, this is rather unlikely.
