Choustnik

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lords of Choustnik (also Chousnik; Chusnik, Chustnik, Chaußnik, Chussingk ; in Czech Paní z Choustníka ) were a Bohemian noble family. Its members held high offices under the kings Charles IV and Wenceslaus IV in Bohemia , the County of Glatz , in Upper Lusatia and in Silesia .

history

The ancestors of the Lords of Choustnik are said to come from the Elbe Valley ( Polabí ). A member of the family is said to have participated in the conquest of Milan under Emperor Frederick I in 1158 and was the first to overcome the Milan city wall. A ladder was therefore included in the family coat of arms when the coat of arms was issued.

The first members known by name were Sezima , who died in the Battle of Lodenitz , and a Hroznata. Under Ottokar II Přemysl they had to leave their possessions in the Elbe valley. This is probably why Hroznata's son Beneš built the eponymous castle Choustník in southern Bohemia before 1282 . It was acquired by Peter I. von Rosenberg in 1322 .

In the course of the 14th century, the Lords of Choustnik came to the estates of Miletín , Dražice, Chotěboř and Gradlitz . Since Gradlitz was owned by Hermann / Heřman von Choustnik from 1398 to 1402, it was later referred to as "Choustníkovo Hradiště". With Hermann's brother Beneš, the family of the Lords of Choustnik died out in the male line in 1410.

They were related to the East Bohemian noble family Dobruška and Opočno . The historian František Palacký , on the other hand, viewed them as a branch of the Kaunitz House as a whole , which, in contrast to the related families Augezdecz, Martinic , Talmberg , Richnowsky von Reichenau, Kaunitz , Stosch and Černčický von Kácov, was the only one to deny its origin through another coat of arms.
