Dragoslav Avramović

Dragoslav Avramović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Драгослав Аврамовић ; born October 14, 1919 in Skopje , Yugoslavia ; † February 26, 2001 in Rockville , Maryland , United States ) was a Yugoslav or Serbian economist and politician.

Life

Dragoslav Avramović grew up in Skopje and studied law at the University of Belgrade . In 1956 he received his doctorate in economics . From 1953 to 1977 he worked at the World Bank , where he mainly dealt with the states of South America and the Caribbean and the problem of national debt in developing countries . He then held other positions in international organizations.

From 1994 to 1996 he was President of the National Bank of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia . With his currency reform of January 24, 1994, in which he introduced the so-called Superdinar , which is linked to the Deutsche Mark at a ratio of 1: 1 , he succeeded in ending hyperinflation .

In the mid-1990s he was one of the leading figures in the Zajedno (Joint) party alliance, which was in opposition to the Milošević government ; after the end of the Milošević government, he briefly belonged to the interim government.
