description

The three-flowered nightshade is an annual herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 15 to 100 centimeters. It is sparsely branched with prostrate side rungs. The above-ground parts of the plant, which are simply hairy to bristly, are odorless. The 2 to 7 centimeters long and 1.5 to 4 centimeters wide leaves are pinnate with linear-elongated leaf sections.

The flowers are seldom single, usually about three together. The hermaphrodite flowers are five-fold with a double flower envelope . The five petals are white. The flowering period extends from July to August.

The berries, which are glossy green and marbled white when ripe, are around 1 centimeter in diameter.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The original distribution area of the three-flowered nightshade is North America . It is naturalized many times in Europe, for example in Holland and Belgium . In Germany it is a naturalized neophyte with only individual sites on the Lower Rhine (for example in port facilities ) and on the Upper Rhine near Mannheim .

The three-flowered nightshade colonizes nutrient-rich, mostly sandy, dry and warm locations, together with the Kali salt herb ( Kali turgida ).

Systematics

Solanum triflorum was first published by Thomas Nuttall . Solanum triflorum belongs to the Solanum section , which is sometimes also referred to as the Morella section or the Solanum nigrum complex, within the genus Solanum .
