Trinity Church in Elsenz

The Dreifaltigkeitskirche is a Catholic church in Elsenz , a district of Eppingen in the district of Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg .

history

In Elsenz in the Middle Ages there was the Marienkirche of the parish founded around 1465. Belonging to the Electoral Palatinate , Elsenz was initially purely Protestant during the Reformation . Catholics were able to hold church services again from 1685 and initially used a barn for 14 years before the old church could be used as a simultaneous church. When the church was divided in 1707, the old church came to the Reformed community, whereupon the Catholics built their own small church below the present church in 1767. When this became too small, the Trinity Church was built above the old Catholic church in 1912/13 according to plans by the Karlsruhe architect Johannes Schroth as a hall church in neo-baroque style.

description

The choir is oriented to the northeast, access to the church is through the basement of the tower integrated into the southwest gable. The shape of the curved gable and onion dome is reminiscent of the previous Baroque building.

The furnishings that still come from previous buildings include a wooden relief with Jesus and the Emmaus disciples as well as parts of the main altar (Christ body, angels and oval relief portraits of Petrus and Paulus), which were probably made around 1770 by Johann Michael Düchert from Heidelberg, because they stylistically coincide with his works in Feudenheim and Unter-Schönmattenwag . The church also has a late Gothic Madonna from Ulm around 1480, which came into the possession of the community in 1929.

organ

The organ was built in 1978 by the organ builder Mönch (Überlingen). The instrument has 20 registers (including two prints and two registers on alternating loops ) on two manuals and pedal . The playing and register actions are mechanical.
