Dresden is a small town in Muskingum County , Ohio with 1,423 inhabitants (2000).

Specialty

In the place called the Basket Village , there is a straw basket several meters high as an attraction. It is the world's largest basket according to the Guinness Book of Records .

The background to this is that the basketry of the Longaberger family , which originated in the village, has developed into a prosperous American furniture store " Longaberger Homestead ". Its headquarters are in Newark (Ohio) . The multi-storey building is modeled on an oversized straw basket with a handle.

The place was named after the city of Dresden in Saxony, Germany.

Dresden is located in Muskingum County . It forms its own administrative unit ( village ). Parts of the place in the south ( Lower Dresden ) are in the adjacent Jefferson Township , as well as parts in the west and north of Wakatomika Creek in Cass Township . To the north is the Trinway settlement .

The north-south connection Ohio State Route 60 runs through the village . This leads north to Freeway SR 16 and south to Zanesville and Interstate 70 . In the running eastward branches Ohio State Route 208 from passing east of the place starting point of Ohio State Route 666 is south, toward Zanesville.

In the course of State Road 208 ( East Muskingum Avenue ) east of the village a girder bridge spans the Muskingum River . The old steel suspension bridge, built in 1914, stands parallel to it, but is no longer in operation.
