history

Church and churchyard in Drewelow

Drewelow was first mentioned in a document in 1449 as Drevelowe , but the spelling was used as early as 1475 as it is today. The Slavic name can be interpreted as a wood cutter , south of the place are larger forest areas.

An early settlement of the area is to be assumed, since several Neolithic large stone graves and Bronze Age tumulus graves are proven and still exist in the southern forest area, some of which are assigned to the neighboring Sarnow district.

Drewelow is laid out as an anger village and is also a church location. Around 1920, an unusually large memorial complex from the First World War was built in the churchyard for the small village .

What is striking about the location is that, according to MTB 1880 ( measuring table sheet ), the existing estate with the name Drewelow Gut is about 1.3 kilometers from the village and is later also called the Fasanenhof.

At the same time as the local elections on June 7, 2009, the previously independent communities Drewelow and Japenzin were incorporated into Spantekow.
