Drimia uniflora is a plant of the genus Drimia in the family of asparagaceae (Asparagaceae). The specific epithet uniflora is derived from the Latin words uni for 'a' and -florus for '-blütig'.

description

Drimia uniflora is a perennial plant whose dwarf, tufted, surface or underground bulbs are whitish and spherical and have a length of up to 16 millimeters.

The inflorescence is reduced to a one- to two-flowered panicle . The two spurred bracts are up to 1 millimeter long. The nodding, white to pink-colored flower envelope is tubular and has a length of up to 5 millimeters. Your tepals are fused together in the lower half and the stamens with this tepal tube. The anthers are dorsifix, the ovary sessile and elliptical.

The elongated fruits are translucent loculicidal capsule fruits with a length of up to 5 millimeters. They contain angular seeds that are 0.5 millimeters long .

Systematics and distribution

Drimia uniflora is widespread in rock crevices in South Africa .

The first description as Litanthus pusillus by William Henry Harvey was published in 1844. John Charles Manning and Peter Goldblatt put the species in the genus Drimia in 2000 . They chose the new name Drimia uniflora because the name Drimia pusillus was already taken.
