Driven to Kill - damned to vengeance is an American direct-to-video - thriller from the year 2009 , with Steven Seagal in the role of a Russian ex-gangster.
action
Ruslan Drachev, a former gangster, is called by his ex-wife and asked to come home for his daughter Lanie's wedding. He complies with this request. Once there, he learns that Stephan - the son of the Russian mafia boss Mikhail - is the groom. However, he does not want to continue his father's legacy. Since Ruslan has booked a hotel outside of the city, he doesn't want to come back for the wedding until later after a short visit. But then the house is already teeming with police officers. His ex-wife was killed and his daughter is seriously injured. To make the killers believe that they have done a good job and to protect them from further attacks, Ruslan and the police fabricate her death and take her to a hospital. His ex-wife's new husband, gangster lawyer Terry Goldstein, also got away with his life. Ruslan now goes on a search for the murderers together with Stephan. Ruslan procures weapons and is able to identify the murderers via a stolen ring from his daughter - which was returned to a pawnshop.
He finds out that Stephen's father, Mikhail, has something to do with the attack on his daughter. The more Ruslan investigates, the more his past as a gangster catches up with him. Ultimately it turns out that the stepfather is the commissioner of the murder; he wants to collect his wife's life insurance in order to settle bankruptcy transactions. Mikhail, who had his men carry out the murder assignment, also has a motive: he wants his son back and not to see him married to his enemy's daughter. From a corrupt police officer, Mikhail learns that Ruslan's daughter is still alive.
Ruslan ultimately kills Mikhail and his men in the hospital when they are looking for his daughter.
criticism
"Extremely tough action film, which once again offers its aged leading actor a common, stereotypical parade role."
