Drosera kaieteurensis is a carnivorous plant of the genus sundew ( Drosera ) in the family of sundew plants (Droseraceae).

description

Drosera kaieteurensis is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of between 1.3 and 6 centimeters. The species forms native rosettes with a diameter of 6 to 8 millimeters on short stems. The wine-red leaves lie on the ground, the inverted egg-shaped to circular blades are 2 to 3 millimeters long and 2 to 2.5 millimeters wide, blunt at the tip and covered with thread-like trichomes on the upper edge , becoming bald in the middle. The leaf stalks are 4 to 6 millimeters long and measure around 0.5 millimeters in diameter, are silky, rarely becoming weaker, they are covered with thread-like trichomes. The stipules, slit into three lobes over 2 to 3 millimeters long, are 2.5 to 4 millimeters long, around 1 millimeter wide, rectangular and membranous.

The one to three inflorescences are 1.3 to 6 inches long and have two to nine flowers . The inflorescence axis is one to three centimeters long and heavily covered with thread-like trichomes. The approximately 1 millimeter long bracts are linear. The sepals, which are fused together in the lower third, are 3 to 3.5 millimeters long, the sepals are egg-shaped and trichomized, the petals white or pink. There are six scars .

The capsules open lengthways along the capsule walls and, after opening, form a bowl in which the seeds rest and from which the seeds are thrown out of the seed capsule by the "impact" of a raindrop (raindrop or splash cup spread). The seeds are elliptical, the seed skin is reticulated.

distribution

Existed at the foot of the Salto Ángel , Auyan-Tepui in Venezuela

Drosera kaieteurensis is native to the borderlands of Guyana and Venezuela at altitudes between 460 and 2400 meters in savannas on sandy soils or on rocks overgrown with moss. It may also be found in Trinidad and Tobago .

Systematics

A closer look reveals the relationship between Drosera kaieteurensis and Drosera felix or Drosera solaris . Above all, seed spread is a common feature; all three types are rain ballists . Like these species, Drosera kaieteurensis is also classified in the Drosera section of the subgenus of the same name.
