Drudenfuß (heraldry)
The Drudenfuß represents a common figure in heraldry . The appearance is a pentagram , i. H. a star with five points, the points being connected to each other by a straight line so that the line of characters begins and ends at the same point. The figure is often depicted as a braided ribbon in the style of a knot pattern .
Other names of the figure are Alpfuss, Pentalpha, Fünfstern, Alfenfuß, Alpkreuz and Drudenkreuz. The terms Alpenkreuz and Albenkreuz can also be found in the literature. Despite the latter designations, the Drudenfuß is not a cross in the strict sense.
The term Drudenfuß is used in heraldry for all pentagrams, regardless of whether the figure points with the point up or down.
The Drudenfuß in coat of arms
The Drudenfuß is used in many coats of arms . With regard to the color representation , everything is allowed, the figure being represented in one color or as metal. Examples:
The Drudenfuß can also be found in family coats of arms, for example in the coat of arms of the Kleinsorgen family .
The Drudenfuß on flags and national coats of arms
The Drudenfoot can also be found in the flag and the coat of arms of Morocco and Ethiopia (as the "Seal of Solomon ").
Other five-pointed stars
Five-pointed stars that correspond to a filled in pentagram can be found on many national flags , e.g. B. those of the USA , the EU and many other countries, as well as the red or Soviet star and on the flags of many Islamic countries. The number five has a special meaning in Islam because of the five pillars . The five-pointed star can also be found in the national emblem of the United States Air Force , as the logo of Texaco and other companies.
