history
According to tradition, the pentagram goes back to the seal of King Solomon , who plays a special role for the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church , since they consider the old Ethiopian emperors to be descendants of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba . The last Emperor Haile Selassie described himself as the 225th successor to the son of the Queen of Sheba.
The older coat of arms of Ethiopia showed the lion of Judah , also a reference to Christian traditions. The origin of the lion probably goes back to the legendary priest king Johannes . He appeared in the coat of arms of the empire and in the three seals of the republic.
