Ramsau is a municipality with 830 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Lilienfeld district in Lower Austria .

geography

Ramsau is located in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the municipality covers 54.69 square kilometers. 81.97 percent of the area is forested.

history

Ammonite finds in the mountain next to the company "Schmid Schrauben" show that the entire area was covered by oceans at the time of the Mesozoic. In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .

In the Middle Ages, the defunct Burgstall Ramsau , the seat of the noble family of Ramsau (1263-1414) , stood in the place .

Population development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 934 inhabitants. In 1991 the municipality had 954 inhabitants, in 1981 847 and in 1971 907 inhabitants.

In this election, the ÖVP- affiliated list We are Ramsau (WSR) and the Free Citizens List Ramsau (RAMSAU) with the former mayor Ferdinand Reicherstorfer as the top candidate. While the SPÖ and ÖVP lost seats, both lists were able to move into the municipal council, together they received around 25% of the votes.
In this election, the two lists of citizens merged to form the list Stefan Steinacher - Together for Ramsau (STEFAN). This achieved 36.8% of the vote and thus 6 seats. The ÖVP Ramsau (L. ÖVP) was able to keep its absolute majority with 8 seats despite a loss of 14.1%, the SPÖ lost slightly and received one seat. The FPÖ did not run in 2010 and clearly failed to make it into the municipal council in 2015 with 2.9% of the vote.

In 2001 there were 32 non-agricultural workplaces, and according to the 1999 survey there were 52 in agriculture and forestry. The number of people in work at home was 401 according to the 2001 census. The 2001 employment rate was 43.46 percent.
