With over 4,000 inhabitants, Weiler / Rems is the largest district of Schorndorf ( Rems-Murr-Kreis , Baden-Württemberg ). It is located on the Rems at around 250 meters above sea level, around 2 kilometers west of the city center. The suffix Rems serves to distinguish it from other places with the name Weiler.

history

Weiler 1685 (view from Andreas Kieser's forest inventory books )

Weiler was mentioned for the first time in 1293 in the "Lorcher Certificate", in which Count Eberhard von Württemberg took over the protection of the Lorch Monastery and its possessions, including Weiler. In older literature, 1206 is mentioned as the year of the first mention, in which Heinrich Marschall von Pappenheim agreed to an exchange of goods between his father and the Adelberg monastery . A good in Weiler was exchanged for one in Göppingen . However, the latest findings indicate that this was a hamlet near Ebersbach an der Fils.

In 1684 Weiler was given a school in which the schoolmaster's living room was also the classroom.

Around 1880, instead of the old brickworks, the G. Groß steam brickworks , which until 1976 was the largest employer in Weiler, was built. Since then, Oskar Frech GmbH has occupied this place , employing around 320 people on site.

In the course of the regional reform , the municipality of Weiler / Rems lost its independence on January 1, 1973 and was incorporated into the town of Schorndorf .

Town twinning

In May 1966 the community entered into a partnership with Radenthein in Carinthia , which is still maintained today through regular visits.

Churches

Protestant church

In 1359 the now Protestant church was first mentioned in a document and consecrated to the Holy Cross . Weiler only got its own parish in 1852, before the church was looked after by Schorndorf pastors. In 1742 the church was extended to the north and the men's gallery was built. In 1879 the church tower was redesigned and in 1962 the newly renovated church was consecrated again.

Because Weiler had over 630 Catholic parishioners in 1963 , a Catholic church was built west of the cemetery, which was inaugurated on October 30, 1966 and dedicated to St. Stephen .

Since 1950 the “ Church of God ”, which had held services in private rooms from 1941, has its own small church.

politics

Weiler is in the area of 1973 incorporated municipality Weiler / Rems a village within the meaning of Baden-Württemberg municipal code with its own 14 members existing Ortschaftsrat .

coat of arms

The Weilermer coat of arms consists of a yellow (golden) shield on which a black pentagon formed from three interlocking triangles lies (see Drudenfuß (heraldry) ). It was first identified as a sign of Weilers marks in 1686 and can still be found on old landmarks today. The blue wave bar should indicate the proximity to the Rems. The coat of arms was awarded on December 8, 1958 by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior. The colors of the coat of arms are intended to remind of the affiliation to Baden-Württemberg , to distinguish it from the state flag, blue-yellow was chosen for the hamlet flag.
