history

Schornbach 1686 (view from the forest inventory books by Andreas Kieser )

In 1264, Count Ulrich I of Württemberg gave some land in Schornbach to the Adelberg Monastery in payment. The document about this business mentions the place name for the first time. The Lorch Monastery also owned goods on site, which Count Eberhard the Illustrious placed under Württemberg protection in 1293, with a distinction being made between Ober- and Unter-Schornbach. Schornbach was an agricultural, poor community whose main income was agriculture and viticulture . While 96 acres were still used for viticulture in 1853 , after the phylloxera disaster , at the beginning of the 20th century this was mainly replaced by fruit growing.

Mannshaupten 1686 (view from Andreas Kieser's forest inventory books )

Mannshaupten was first mentioned in 1424. Until 1925, the hamlet of Kottweil, which is now part of the Berglen municipality , was politically part of Schornbach. On the occasion of the regional reform, Schornbach was incorporated into Schorndorf on January 1, 1975.

Church development

Originally, Schornbach was a branch of the Constance parish of Buoch . After the foundation of a chapel (1472), the cathedral chapter established its own parish here with the consent of Württemberg in 1496, which the chapter had to fill with a Württemberg resident. In addition to Constance, the Schorndorfer parish and the (Württemberg) winery also had shares in the tithe . The right of patronage did not come to Württemberg until the beginning of the 19th century in the course of secularization from the diocese of Constance via Baden .

In addition to Schornbach and Mannshaupten, the neighboring district of Buhlbronn , which has its own church building, also belongs to the parish today .

politics

Schornbach together with man Berghaupten a village within the meaning of Baden-Württemberg municipal code with its own ten members existing Ortschaftsrat .

coat of arms

The Schornbacher coat of arms shows like the Schorndorfer two crossed scissors (spades), which are executed in blue; underneath a blue wave bar, which is supposed to symbolize the Schornbach. The symbols are shown on a white (silver) plate. It replaced the old coat of arms from before 1964, on which the three Württemberg stag sticks and a Schore were depicted.

Protestant church

The Maria-Barbara-Katharina-Kirche was donated in 1471/1472 and is characterized by its old choir tower with its wooden architecture. The interior is furnished with a late Gothic baptismal font as well as a stone pulpit , a gallery and a crucifix that date from the Renaissance .

From 1829 until his death on October 1st, 1840, the pastor and song composer Friedrich Glück worked in the Schornbach. A street named after him, an exhibition in the rectory ( Friedrich-Glück-Gedenkstätte ) and memorial plaques on the town hall and in the cemetery remind of him.
