The Duandra is a 2012 Shipyard Trico BV in Rotterdam in cooperation with the Rensen-Driessen Shipbuilding BV ., Zwijndrecht for Olesia BV built motor tanker . The hull was manufactured in China by the Sainty Marine shipyard in Jiang Du and shipped to the Netherlands along with other shell structures on a heavy-duty pontoon . The Duandra is the first tanker equipped with a hybrid drive .

construction

The 110 meter long and 16.2 meter wide hull is double-hulled and has eight cargo tanks with a capacity of 750 m³ each. It is driven by two Volvo Penta diesel engines via a reversing gear with reduction on two fixed propellers in nozzles. A 350 kW electric motor is attached to each gearbox as a second drive . Depending on the load, the propellers can be driven directly by the diesel engines or by the electric motors. The electricity for the electric drive is generated by two Volvo Penta diesel generators with 500 kW each installed in the bow . When driving slowly, the power of one generator is sufficient. If necessary, the second generator or the main drive motors can be switched on. The maximum output is 827 kW (1125 hp) per propeller.

Rear view

By installing smaller engines, which are also manufactured in large numbers, the construction costs of the ship are reduced. In addition, the motors can be operated in the most economical speed range, which leads to fuel savings. All diesel engines are equipped with catalytic converters , particulate filters and urea injection for emission control equipped and meet the applicable 2016 emission standards . The waste heat from the engines is used to heat the apartment and wheelhouse, as well as to generate hot water.

A four-channel bow thruster with 465 kW of the Veth-Jet 4-K-1400B type is installed in the bow.
