Henri Edouard Dubied also Eduard (* 1823 in Couvet , Switzerland , † 1878 ibid) played a major role in the invention and development of the flat knitting machine .

Life

Henri Edouard Dubied came from the marriage of Henri Edouard Dubied senior. (* 1783; † 1843) and Charlotte Julie Courvoisier. The father owned a distillery where absinthe was produced. Dubied's uncle by marriage is Henri Louis Pernod , who also founded an absinthe distillery.

HE Dubied jun. studied engineering in Paris . On December 23, 1853 he married Cécile Koechlin. Around 1866 he founded a mechanical workshop in Couvet. 1867 he was at the World Exhibition in Paris on the demonstrated there knitting machine by Isaac Lamb Wixon attentive and acquired the patent . In his factory in Couvet, he immediately began designing flat knitting machines .

The company Edouard Dubied & Cie. SA in Couvet produced knitting machines until the end of the 20th century , and at times also locomotives . In 1995 the production of knitting machines in Couvet was definitely stopped.

In Couvet today a street is named after Dubied. He was a member of the Société d'Étudiants de Belles-Lettres .
