Allium ramosum ( Syn. : Allium lancipetalum Y.P.Hsu , Allium odorum L. , Allium potaninii rule , Allium tataricum f L.. , Allium weichanicum Palibin ) is a species of the genus allium ( Allium ) in the subfamily leek plants (Allioideae). In terms of taste, it is more similar to garlic than chives.

distribution

This species is found in Kazakhstan , Mongolia , Russia and the Chinese provinces: Gansu , Hebei , Heilongjiang , Jilin , Liaoning , Nei Mongol , Ningxia , Qinghai , Shaanxi , Shandong , Shanxi and Xinjiang . The locations are on sunny hills and pastures at altitudes between 500 and 2100 meters. This species is seldom in culture and is not used.

Possibility of confusion

The rare species Allium ramosum differs from the closely related, often cultivated garlic chives ( Allium tuberosum ) primarily by a pale red midrib on the white bloom cladding , the leaves are not as flat as A. tuberosum . According to one view, only Allium tuberosum is considered a cultivated species, but there is also the view that Allium ramosum was also cultivated.

Allium ramosum must not be confused with the European scented leek ( Allium suaveolens ).
