Dulal Dutta

Dulal Dutta ( Bengali : দুলাল দত্ত , Dulāl Datta ; * 1925 in Chandannagar , Bengal ; † August 17, 2010 in Kolkata , West Bengal ) was an Indian film editor .

Career

Dutta started out as an assistant editor in Bombay . From 1955 he took over the editing department himself. He oversaw the editing of all of Satyajit Ray's films and worked closely with him in this process. His style is praised for its "natural rhythm". Dutta also worked for other directors such as Haridas Bhattacharya , Tarun Majumdar and Sandip Ray and worked with Satyajit Ray on James Ivory's film The Householder (1963) after Ivory was not satisfied with the first version. Dutta lived a secluded life within the Kolkata film world and only rarely appeared in public. He died of a stroke (hemorrhage in the brain).
