Seemabaddha ( Bengali : সীমাবদ্ধ , Sīmābaddha ; translated: Restricted ) is an Indian feature film by Satyajit Ray from 1971. It was based on the novel Seemabaddha by Mani Shankar Mukhopadhyay .
action
Shyamal is the head of sales for fans in the British company "Hindusthan Peters Limited" in Kolkata , which manufactures fans and lamps. He is married to Dolan and lives in a company apartment. He competes with a colleague for a senior position in the company.
His sister-in-law Tutul comes from Patna to spend a few days with Shyamal and his wife. She always envied her sister for her marriage to the idealistic Shyamal. Shyamal shows Tutul city life with its parties, clubs and horse racing.
One day Shyamal notices that a load of fans destined for export to Iraq is damaged. However, there is not enough time to exchange them. Since this could lead to the export supply contract bursting and his hopes for the post of director ending, Shyamal has a strike provoked among the workers. A factory guard is seriously injured and the lockout of the workers is explained. This gives Shyamal the time it needs for the new production and ultimately saves the contract.
He receives the hoped-for promotion, but his standing in front of himself and Tutul has plummeted.
