Dungass is a department in the region of Zinder in Niger .

geography

The department is located in the south of the country and borders Nigeria . It consists of the rural parishes of Dogo-Dogo , Dungass , Gouchi, and Malawa . The eponymous capital of the department is Dungass. Wadi Korama runs through the department .

history

The department goes back to the poste administratif of Dungass, which was established in 1988. In 2011 the administrative post was removed from the Magaria department and raised to the Dungass department.

population

The Dungass department has a population of 350,444 according to the 2012 census. From 2001 to 2012 the population increased by an average of 5.6% annually (nationwide: 3.9%).

At the head of the department is a prefect (French: préfet ) who is appointed by the Council of Ministers on the proposal of the Minister of the Interior .
