Dwayne Ambusley (born August 10, 1980 in Kingston ) is a Jamaican football player in the position of midfielder . It was only at the age of 36 that he made his debut in the national team of his home country .

Club career

Dwayne Ambusley was born on August 10, 1980 in the Jamaican capital Kingston, but grew up in Hanover and attended Rusea's High School in the port city of Lucea on the north coast of Jamaica. At Rusea's High School , which he graduated in 1996, he was already successful as a football player and played with the school's senior team in the daCosta Cup , the highest national school football league . A year after graduating from high school, he played for Legend FC from Hanover in the now defunct National A League . The National A League was at that time a buffer or an intermediate station between the second-rate and parallel Confederation Leagues and the National Premier League , the top division in Jamaican football. In this league he competed against teams such as Hazard United , better known today as Portmore United FC .

Over the years, Ambusley was also used in the Confed Super League, although the media does not reveal exactly where and when he was active during this time. In the early 2000s, however, he came to Montpelier FC with play in the second-rate Western Confederation Super League and was there until his move to Seba United , now Montego Bay United , active. With the team he came in the course of his station there twice in the final of the play-offs, just before moving into the decisive promotion play-offs. Once the team lost to Negril FC in the final and again, in the 2006/07 season, the team lost to Montpelier after a 1-0 win in the first leg, after a goal by Lenore Campbell, after the second leg was over FC 3-0, a hat trick by Jermaine "Tuffy" Anderson , lost to Granville FC . After his time at Montpelier FC , Ambusley joined Seba United and appeared for the team in the second division. After promotion in the 2010/11 season, as champion of the Western Super League , he appeared for the club, which was acquired in July 2011 by Orville Powell and henceforth called Montego Bay United , in the highest Jamaican football league in appearance.

In his first season in the National Premier League, he was used in all 33 championship games, contributed one goal and ranked with the team in the final standings, after eleven wins and just as many draws and defeats, in seventh place in the table. The team barely made it into the season-defining championship play-offs, but had to compete in the relegation play-offs. In these, the team was largely able to prevail against the competition and ended the season in said seventh place in the table. He achieved the same final placement with Montego Bay United in the 2012/13 season, when he again just missed the championship play-offs with the team, but was able to win four of the five decisive games in the relegation play-offs and thus remained in seventh place. During this season he appeared in 27 league games and remained goalless himself. He came to even fewer missions in the following 2013/14 season, which for the first time only ended in a championship play-off and no longer had a relegation play-off. This season he was in only 13 championship games in action and finished third with the team at the end of regular time. In the final play-offs, which were played in a return leg in the semifinals and a single final game, the team prevailed against the competition, especially Waterhouse FC , which was very strong this season , and won the final against them a hat trick from Dino Williams and a brace from Omar Gordon 5-2.

In the 2014/15 season, the 180 cm tall midfielder, who has also been captain of the Montego Bay United team for some time , again made more appearances in the Jamaican top class. After 28 appearances from 33 regular season games, he came back to third place in the table with Montego Bay United, but lost 2-0 to Arnett Gardens FC after moving into the play-off final . In the sometimes very closely staggered final table of the regular season 2015/16, Ambusley and his team again made it to third place in the table. As already two years before, the team was able to prevail again in the final and won it 2-1 over Portmore United FC . The midfielder himself was used in 31 of the 33 possible league games and contributed a goal. In the current (as of March 27, 2017) ongoing National Premier League season 2016/17, the team ranks fourth, but is still only a few points away from the championship lead. So far, Ambusley has made appearances in 19 league games and has twice been successful as a goalscorer.

National team career

Due to his achievements for Jamaican football and his long time at Seba United / Montego Bay United, Theodore Whitmore brought him to the Jamaican national football team , in which he made his debut in October 2016 at the age of 36. He made his debut game on October 11, 2016 in the qualification for the Caribbean Championship 2017 , which also served as the qualification phase for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2017 , when he started in the third round, when Jamaica entered the qualification, from the beginning and over the full game against Guyana was used. The game only ended in extra time in a 4-2 win for Jamaica. Also in the second group game against Suriname Whitmore put him over the full game; The game ended 1-0 for the Jamaicans in regular time, who were then group winners and qualified for the 2017 Caribbean Championship and the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. In the following year 2017 he was back in the squad of the Jamaican national team for the first time in a friendly international match against the United States on February 3, 2017. Here, however, he was only on the bench and was not used in the game. Less than two weeks later, however, he completed his third international match when he came on for Omar Gordon in a 1-0 friendly win over Honduras shortly before the end of the game, in the 90th minute.
