Eşref Bilgiç (* 1908 in Istanbul ; † unknown) was a Turkish football player , coach and referee. Through his many years of activity for Beşiktaş Istanbul and as his own generation, he is very strongly associated with this club and referred to by club and fan pages as an important personality in the club's history. During his time at Beşiktaş he played with legendary players for the club such as Hakkı Yeten , Şeref Görkey , Hüseyin Saygun , Hüsnü Savman , İbrahim Tusder , Feyzi Uman and Şükrü Gülesin and was an important part of the team that formed in the years 1933 to In 1947 he was able to win the most important title in Turkish football eight times with the Istanbul championship , five of them in a row.

Bilgiç went through the youth department of Beşiktaş Istanbul and he was included in the squad of the Beşiktaş 'football team for the 1926/27 season . At the time of his entry into the professional squad, his club played in the İstanbul Futbol Ligi (German Istanbul Football League ). Since there was no international professional league in Turkey at that time, there were regional leagues instead in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir , of which the İstanbul Ligi (also called İstanbul Futbol Ligi) was considered the most renowned. In his first season, despite his young age, he appeared in three league games and scored one goal. In his third season he established himself as a regular player.

After he had remained without a title for seven seasons with his club, he was able to win the Istanbul championship with his team in the 1933/34 season . Despite this title, Bilgiç and his team did not win the title for the next four seasons. It was not until the 1938/39 season that he and his team won the championship of the Istanbul Football League. In the following four years, Bilgiç and his team managed to defend their title in the Istanbul championship four times. This broke several league records. In addition, the Milli Küme was won in the 1940/41 season , a kind of championship in which the teams from the three cities of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir participated. In the 1944/45 season he was able to win the Istanbul championship again with his club.

In the summer of 1947 Bilgiç moved to league rivals İstanbulspor . Here he played for a season and then ended his career.

National team

Bilgiç began his national team career in 1931 with a commitment for the Turkish national team in a friendly against the Yugoslav national team . With this encounter he completed his first international match. By 1932 he completed another international match and scored one goal.

With the Turkish selection Bilgiç took part in the Balkan Cup in 1931 and was with this silver medalist.

Coach and referee career

Bilgiç worked as a referee after the end of his professional career in the first half of the 1950s. From 1952 he began to look after the club Kasımpaşa Istanbul, which played in the Istanbul Football League . At this club he worked as head coach for four seasons. He then took over the Istanbul second division Feriköy SK for the 1956/57 season . During the season he took over his former club Beşiktaş Istanbul as head coach, but left it again after nine matchdays.
