EM Nathanson
Erwin "EM" Nathanson (born February 17, 1928 in New York City , † April 5, 2016 in Laguna Niguel , California ) was an American writer, best known for his novel The Dirty Dozen . The film adaptation under the same title The Dirty Dozen is considered one of the most successful war films in film history.
Nathanson was born and raised in the Bronx , New York . His mother suffered from depression and was sent to an institution when he was two years old. He lived in a Jewish orphanage in Manhattan until he was seven , then in the Hebrew National Orphan Home in Yonkers . He stayed here until he finished school. He then studied anthropology at New York University . Nathanson worked as an editor for Fairchild Publications in New York and was a reporter and freelance journalist for the Arlington Sun in Virginia and the Washington Post , among others .
Nathanson died of heart failure at the age of 88.
