The Engin de débarquement amphibie rapide ( EDA-R ) is a class of landing craft of the French Navy .

General

The EDA-R follows a new concept for landing craft. A loading deck is hydraulically height-adjustable between two hulls. When the deck is lowered, the boat has a draft of only three feet and vehicles can land on the beach. When the deck is raised, it is catamaran- shaped and can sail up to 30 knots.

The helicopter carriers of the Mistral class and the dock landing ships of the Foudre class can each transport 2 EDA-Rs in the well deck .

development

Development began in 2000 and the prototype was completed by the Gamelin shipyard in Saint-Malo in 2008 and handed over to the Navy in Toulon . An order for four boats was then placed. In March 2010 there were tests with the loading and transport of Leclerc battle tanks.

2 boats originally destined for Russia were delivered to the Egyptian Navy .

Ships with the same concept are also offered in other sizes.
