Eddi (cabaret award)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Eddi ( original spelling DER EDDI ) is a German satire and cabaret prize that was awarded to cabaret artists, caricaturists and musicians from the GDR from 1981 to 1988 . It has been awarded again since 2013.

General

GDR

The Eddi goes back to an idea of the well-known and popular draftsman and caricaturist Heinz Behling (1920–2003), who then launched it in the autumn of 1981 with the consent and active support of the actor and cabaret artist Edgar Külow .

The plaster figure for the ceremony was created by the artist Anneliese Dörck (1934–2007). The philosophy of the time when the Eddi was awarded consisted of honoring so-called “non-dignity winners” in the GDR, ie artists of all genres who were denied major state and political awards. The EDDI Prize was thus a private initiative by artists from the GDR satire scene who were known or friends with one another. The organizers, Behling and Külow, wanted to promote the cohesion of the artists suspected by the state and to cover this up with a little joke.

New edition from 2013

The new edition of the award ceremony from 2013 follows the cabaret and literary-satirical life's work of the namesake and is supplemented by a newly created statuette of the sculptor Esther Brockhaus and prize money. Prize winners are artists who deal critically and satirically with society. The first award ceremony for the new edition took place on May 31, 2013 in the Babylon cinema in Berlin to the actor and puppeteer Michael Hatzius . In 2019, the prize will be awarded to a cabaret ensemble for the first time, the Berlin cabaret theater Distel .

The prize is awarded by the association “Berliner Kabarettpreis DER EDDI eV”, whose chairman Matthias Oehme is the director of Eulenspiegel-Verlag . Dirk Külow is the deputy chairman. The Berlin district of Lichtenberg - Edgar Külow's last place of residence - will be the sponsor of the prize money and patron by resolution of the district assembly from 2019.
