Jürgen Kieser

Jürgen Kieser (born August 20, 1921 in Erkner ; † May 20, 2019 in Neu Zittau ) was a German comic artist , commercial artist and caricaturist . He was best known for drawing the GDR comic heroes Fix and Fax between 1958 and 1987 for Atze magazine .

Life

After attending the Beuth Engineering College in Berlin, Kieser joined the Air Force in 1940 and became a flight instructor. In 1945 he worked as a farm worker in West Germany; In 1946 he returned home. He then worked as a freelance commercial artist, in 1949 he worked as a decorative draftsman and decorator at the retail chain HO and as a studio manager, in 1952 he went to the newly founded publishing house Junge Welt as a press draftsman .

The first picture stories were created for the pioneering newspaper Die Drum , and he also worked as a freelancer for Fröhlich sein und Singen (later FRÖSI), whose profile he largely determined in the 1950s. He also wrote and drew picture stories for the Wochenpost and other magazines. In 1955 he created the character of the Berlin boy "Atze" for the comic magazine Atze . After various comics (Funnies), 350 episodes of the mouse adventures by Fix and Fax appeared between 1958 and 1991 , which were among the longest-lived comic heroes of the GDR. His comic series has been reprinted in anthologies since 1994 and published by Mosaik Steinchen für Steinchen Verlag .

A DEFA puppet film for the Fix and Fax comic series with the title Dem Täter on the Trail was produced in 1969 on behalf of the German Hygiene Museum . In 1999, based on some Fix and Fax comic episodes, a pilot cartoon was produced under the title Adventure with Fix and Fax - The Flying Gift . The complete film originally planned for this could not be completed due to a lack of funds.

Kieser died in May 2019, three months before his 98th birthday.
