The EUBG 2014 II or EUBG 2014-2 is an EU battlegroup of around 3000 soldiers from Belgium , Germany , Luxembourg , Spain , the Netherlands and Macedonia . Her first deployment as an EU battlegroup took place in the second half of 2014.

Composition and equipment

The EUBG 2014 II was composed as follows:

Belgian contingent

In terms of troops, Belgium provided the largest share with 1,800 soldiers. It formed a binational infantry task force together with the Netherlands, which consisted of four combat units. The two Dutch units were a heavy infantry unit and a company with a one-man anti-aircraft missiles ; the two Belgian units were a light infantry on Dingo 2 and a company on Piranha IIICs with DF90 (direct fire 90 mm cannon). The Belgian helicopter group was equipped with six Agusta A109s .

Dutch contingent

The Netherlands provided 745 soldiers:

  • 14 CV90s with 220 infantrymen ;
  • 14 Bushmasters with 180 soldiers from the 11th Luchtmobiele Brigade ;
  • 2 helicopter compartments ( Chinook ) with 180 soldiers;
  • 65 staff members for the Belgian Force Headquarters and Infantry Task Force;
  • 100 National Support Element departments (logistics and field medicine).

German contingent

Germany provided Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters.

Spanish contingent

Spain provided field artillery (155 mm caliber), an electronic reconnaissance unit (SIGINT) and draft air defense troops, alongside a team of Belgian and Spanish pioneers and a team for psychological warfare .

Luxembourg contingent

Luxemburg provided a company- strength scouting team .

Macedonian contingent

Macedonia was an extraordinary participant as the country is neither a member of the EU nor of NATO .

maneuver

In preparation for the deployment as an EU battlegroup, a maneuver of the EUBG 2014 II called "Rampant Lion" took place in Grafenwoehr in February 2014 . Then in June 2014 the EUBG 2014 II undertook a second maneuver in the Ardennes with the code name "Quick Lion".
