Eat Me, Drink Me is the sixth studio album by the rock band Marilyn Manson . It was released on June 5, 2007 on Interscope Records .

history

After a break after the "Grotesk Burlesk Tour", Marilyn Manson recorded the duet Don't You Want Me with Shirley Manson , which was not released. The best-of album for which it was planned, Lest We Forget: The Best Of , was released in 2004. The first recordings for the next album took place in November 2005, initially focusing on his film project Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll . The album was eventually recorded in a rented home studio in Hollywood with bassist Tim Skold , who composed the music.

Storylines

Since the album was composed for the film Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll , motifs from the Alice in Wonderland story written by Lewis Carroll can be found . For example in "Are You The Rabbit?", In which the motif of the rabbit, who is under time pressure, is used as a symbol. The title song "Eat me, Drink me" is also an element taken up (Alice eats a biscuit that reads 'Eat me' in sugar script and drinks from a bottle that says 'Drink me'). The story is used symbolically as a framework, but it is also sung of a vulnerable love affair ('Just A Car Crash Away') and guilty sex ('Evidence' & 'You And Me And The Devil Makes 3'). The title 'Putting Holes in Happiness' is a snapshot of a flawless girl whose transience the viewer is all too aware of. Here one can also speculate about a relationship with a much younger, more childlike person.
