Smells Like Children ( English for " smells like children ") is an EP by the American rock band Marilyn Manson . It was released on October 24, 1995 on the labels Nothing Records and Interscope Records .
Background and content
The EP was originally supposed to be a remix version of the single Dope Hat from Marilyn Manson's debut album Portrait of an American Family , but the band recorded so many songs during their tour that it became an independent EP, with various remix and cover versions as well as experimental Sound came about.

All songs on the EP were produced by the American music producer Trent Reznor in collaboration with Marilyn Manson .
Cover design
The EP cover is mostly in green tones and shows Marilyn Manson in the role of the child catcher from the 1968 film Tschitti Tschitti Bang Bang . He is wearing a top hat , looks at the viewer and holds his index finger in front of his mouth. At the top of the picture is the red lettering Marilyn Manson and in the lower part the title Smells Like Children in orange.

Smells Like Children entered the US charts on October 31, 1995 and reached the highest position on June 8, 1996 at number 31. In total, it stayed in the top 200 for 50 weeks. In Germany, the EP did not make it into the top 100.
The only single was the song Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) , a cover version of Eurythmics , released in 1995 . The song couldn't make it onto the charts.

In 1998, Smells Like Children earned a platinum record for more than one million units sold in the United States . In the UK, the EP was awarded a gold record for over 100,000 sales in 2013.
