Heaven Upside Down received mostly positive reviews from professional critics. The album achieved an average rating of 71% on metacritic , based on 15 reviews from English-language media.

Olaf Schmidt from laut.de rated Heaven Upside Down with four out of a possible five points. The album is much better than the sometimes “sausage records before it.” Some tracks were reminiscent of the “classic era around Antichrist Superstar or Holy Wood and should surprise some people who no longer expected it.” Even if “not every song had absolute hit potential owns and some lyrics are badly clichéd ", make the band" finally happy again.
