Sylvan Augustus Ebanks-Blake (born March 29, 1986 in Cambridge ) is an English football player . The striker was the top scorer in the second-rate Football League Championship for two consecutive seasons . He has been under contract with third division FC Chesterfield since summer 2015 .
Athletic career
The 1.78 m tall center forward played in the Cambridge area for the Cherry Hinton Lions and the Fulbourn Falcons. In addition, Ebanks-Blake was already a student in the youth department of Cambridge United , but turned down an official training program there after it became clear that highly decorated clubs were interested in him. He finally joined the Manchester United Academy , won the prestigious FA Youth Cup with the youth team in 2003 and made his first short appearance in the professional team on October 26, 2004 in the league cup match against Crewe Alexandra (3-0). Exactly a year later he played his second competitive game for the senior team and scored his first goal in a 4-1 win against FC Barnet . After a leg injury, he was loaned to Royal Antwerp in Belgium in January 2006 . There he scored four goals in nine league games of the ending 2005/06 season.
After returning to England, Ebanks-Blake moved to Plymouth Argyle on July 14, 2006 . The transfer fee was £ 200,000, plus a performance-related clause that allowed the transfer volume to grow to over £ 300,000. Under coach Ian Holloway , he scored ten league goals for the second division side in the 2006/07 season, most of them towards the end of the season. He continued his good form in 2007 with the "Pilgrims" with eleven hits until the end of 2007 and thus finally became the crowd favorite in Plymouth. He caught the attention of Wolverhampton Wanderers , which he joined after activating a contract release clause in January 2008 and signed a new contract for 4½ years, which was extended in July 2009 to the end of the 2012/13 season.
With seven goals in the first eight games, he immediately found his way with the "Wolves" and in March 2008 Ebanks-Blake was voted "Second Division Player of the Month". At the end of the season he won 23 league goals to be the best goalscorer in the 2007/08 Football League Championship . The success story continued in the 2008/09 season. Ebanks-Blake scored nine goals in their first thirteen league games, scored three goals in one game for the first time in his career against Norwich City on February 3, 2009 and broke the 20-goal mark for the second year in a row. At the end of the promotion season he was voted the best second division player of the past season and he again won the title of best second division shooter with 25 goals; in addition, his goal received the most votes in the election for "Goal of the Year" after a solo run against Charlton Athletic .
On November 18, 2008 Ebanks-Blake played his first and only international match for the England U-21 national team against the Czech Republic - the friendly encounter ended with a 2-0 win for England.
