The Oester (also Oesterbach , in the upper reaches of Ebbebach ) is a right tributary of the Else in the Märkisches Kreis in the Sauerland. It is almost 16 km long. Parts of the upper reaches are in the Ebbebach Valley nature reserve .
course
The Oester rises in the south of the urban area of Herscheid an der Nordhelle , the highest point of the Hohe Ebbe . Initially the river flows to the east and forms a natural border between the Hohem Ebbe and the Herscheider Ebbe to the north . After about 6 km it is dammed up at the Oestertalsperre and from then on flows through the Plettenberger Kessel . Here the urban area of Plettenberg is reached. The Oester flows through the Oesterau district and turns north. About 10 km below the dam it flows into the Else in the center of Plettenberg .
Tributaries
About halfway to the mouth, the Oester flows into the Nuttmecke (3.4 km, 11.9 km² catchment area) from the right, whereupon it changes its direction from east to north (east).
Shortly before its confluence, again from the right, it takes up the green (9.2 km, 14.5 km²).
