Eberhard (Zweibrücken)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eberhard (* approx. 1339 ; † December 10, 1394 ) was the last Count of Zweibrücken .

Life

He was born the son of Count Walram II von Zweibrücken and his wife Johanna von Bar-Pierrefort .

Eberhard von Zweibrücken married Lyse (Elisabeth) von Veldenz, daughter of Count Heinrich II. Von Veldenz. The marriage remained childless.

In 1366, after the death of his father, he came to rule the already indebted county of Zweibrücken. The situation did not consolidate under his government. Gradually he was forced to partially sell or pledge Bergzabern , Hornbach and Zweibrücken to Ruprecht I of the Palatinate . The domination and Burg Stauf sold Graf Eberhard 1378-1388 piecemeal to Henry II. Of Sponheim-Bolanden-Dannenfels .

When Eberhard died without descendants in 1394, his county, which he had held as a feudal fief since 1385, was confiscated from the Electoral Palatinate and given to Duke Charles II of Lorraine . The allodies went to the Zweibrücken-Bitsch house .

In 1375 Count Eberhard had exempted the property of the Rosenthal Monastery in Kerzweilerhof and the goods that Rosenthal had acquired from the Hane Monastery from all taxes and duties.
