Eberhard Baier

Eberhard Baier (born August 20, 1895 in Frankfurt / Main ; † February 21, 1983 in Wiesbaden ) was a German Lieutenant General in the Air Force in World War II .

Life

Baier served in the airship force during the First World War . After the end of the war he was taken over as a lieutenant in the Reichswehr and served in the 3rd Division's Fahrabteilung 3 . On February 1, 1930, he was promoted to captain .

On April 1, 1933, he switched to the Air Force, which was still camouflaged, and worked as an officer z. b. V. to the Reich Ministry of Aviation . There he was promoted to major on December 1, 1934 , who joined the Sturzkampfgeschwader 162 on April 1, 1935 as a group commander . After he took over the task of a squadron commodore of Sturzkampfgeschwader 165 on April 1, 1936 , he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 1, 1937 . From November 1, 1938, he moved in the same position to Lehrgeschwader 2 where he reached the rank of colonel on April 1, 1939 . From June 1, 1939, he was also the commandant of the Jüterbog Waldlager air base . From September 1, 1939, the squadron took part in the attack on Poland .

After the squadron staff had been disbanded on November 18, 1939, Baier took over the leadership of Sturzkampfgeschwader 1 on the same day and led it into the western campaign that began on May 10, 1940 . Towards the end of this campaign, on June 22nd, he moved to the Stuka School 1 in Regensburg - Obertraubling as a commander, while at the same time taking on the role of commander of the air base there. From June 30, 1941, he took on various tasks in the Armistice Commission in occupied France, where he was promoted to major general on April 1, 1942 . This was followed by promotion to lieutenant general on March 1, 1945 and promotion to the leader of the OKL Reserve on March 24, 1945. Here came Baier on May 3, 1945 in Allied POW camp from which he was released in February 24, 1947.
