Eberhard Metternich

Eberhard Metternich (born July 24, 1959 in Limburg an der Lahn ) is a German Catholic church musician , school musician, singer, cathedral music director and professor of choral conducting in Cologne .

Metternich sang with the Limburger Domsingknaben as a teenager . After his school days, which ended in 1979 with the Abitur at the Fürst-Johann-Ludwig-Schule in Hadamar , he studied school music , German language and literature and singing in Cologne and later studied choral conducting at the Frankfurt University of Music with Uwe Gronostay . In further stations he also studied in Vienna and with Eric Ericson in Stockholm .

In 1985 Metternich became cathedral choirmaster in Mainz . In 1987 he was appointed to Cologne as cathedral music director . Responsible for the conception of Cologne Cathedral Music , expanded the music school of the Cologne Cathedral Choir and founded the concert series of sacred music at the Dreikönigsschrein in 1991 . Among other things, he directs the Cologne Cathedral vocal ensemble and the Cologne Cathedral Choir . In addition, Metternich headed the collegium vocale limburg until the mid-1990s .

Metternich has been a lecturer in choral conducting at the Cologne University of Music since 1993 . In 2001 he was appointed honorary professor there.

Awards

With the Cologne Cathedral Choir, he won first prize in the “Boys Choirs” category at the 6th German Choir Competition in Osnabrück in 2002. With the collegium vocale limburg he won first prize in the male chamber choirs category at the 2nd German Choir Competition in 1985 in Hanover.
