Eberhard Roßdeutscher (born January 28, 1921 in Weißenfels ; † May 27, 1980 in Magdeburg , Saxony-Anhalt ) was a German sculptor , sculptor and restorer.

Life

After finishing school, Roßdeutscher learned the profession of stonemason and stone sculptor from 1937 to 1940 with his father Max Roßdeutscher in Magdeburg. From 1926 to 1929 his father was the director of the Magdeburg Dombauhütte and created sculptural busts and medals.

In this early period Eberhard Roßdeutscher attended the School for Graphics and Design in Magdeburg . In 1946 he studied at the Bremen State Art School with Herbert Kubica and from 1955 to 1963 he was a visiting professor at the Art School in Magdeburg. From 1952 he worked as a freelance artist and created portrait and animal sculptures, while from 1967 he turned to monuments and larger sculptural ensembles.

From 1957 he initiated the once a year sculpture symposium in Ummendorf in the Ummendorf sandstone quarry , in which he always took part until he fell ill in 1978.

Roßdeutscher worked mainly in bronze , stone and terracotta.

Eberhard Roßdeutscher's son is Wolfgang Roßdeutscher , a sculptor, like his father Max Roßdeutscher.

After Magdalena George, Eberhard Roßdeutscher gains his characteristic style in dealing with the sculpture of our century, which he documents most convincingly in his small sculptures. His subjects were depictions of people and animals, especially in groups.
