Subspecies

  • Echinopsis tacaquirensis subsp. tacaquirensis
  • Echinopsis tacaquirensis subsp. taquimbalensis (Cárdenas) G. Navarro

Echinopsis tacaquirensis subsp. tacaquirensis
The subspecies is common in the Bolivian departments of Chuquisaca , Potosí and Tarija in middle and higher altitudes of 2300 to 3200 meters. Their thorns are not easy to distinguish between central and radial spines.

Echinopsis tacaquirensis subsp. taquimbalensis
The first description as Trichocereus taquimbalensis by Martín Cárdenas was published in 1953. Gonzalo Navarro introduced the species as a subspecies to Echinopsis tarijensis in 1995 . Echinopsis tacaquirensis subsp. taquimbalensis is widespread in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba on dry slopes at altitudes of 2800 to 3100 meters. Their thorns are easily distinguishable into central spines and radial spines.

Another nomenclature synonym is Echinopsis taquimbalensis (Cärdenas) H. Friedrich & GDRowley (1974). In addition, the following taxa were included as synonymous in the subspecies: Trichocereus taquimbalensis var. Wilkeae Backeb. (1957) and Echinopsis taquimbalensis var. Wilkeae (Backeb.) H.
