Eckard from Usedom

Eckard von Usedom , also Eckhard (t) , (* 1580 ; † March 8, 1646 ) was a German lawyer and court president in the Duchy of Pomerania-Wolgast .

Life

Eckard (III.) Von Usedom came from the Pomeranian noble family von Usedom . Around 1608 he was a court advisor , later a privy councilor in the Electoral Palatinate . When the situation changed there, he went to the Reich Chamber of Commerce as an assessor . In 1610 he was attacked by soldiers in Dachstein in Alsace and seriously wounded.

In 1623 he became a ducal secret legation councilor and later chancellor of Pomerania . In 1625 he was appointed president of the court and castle captain in Wolgast . He was repeatedly entrusted with important matters by the dukes Philipp Julius and Bogislaw XIV . During the Thirty Years' War he and Thomas Heydebreck negotiated the Greifswald settlement concluded on February 11, 1628 with the Imperial Colonel von Arnim .

Although he wanted to retire from his offices for health reasons in 1632, he took over the office of Governor of Rügen , which he administered until the end of his life.

In his will he donated several grants to the University of Greifswald . His book collection went to the Greifswald University Library .
