Eckehard Stier (* 1972 in Dresden ) is a German conductor .

Career

Stier received his first musical training in the Dresden Kreuzchor . He studied orchestral conducting, piano and accompaniment at the Music Academy in Dresden. From 1995 to 2003 he was Kapellmeister at the Chemnitz City Theaters .

He was general music director of the city of Görlitz and chief conductor of the New Lusatian Philharmonic for 10 years . From 2009 to 2015 he was chief conductor and music director of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in the New Zealand city ​​of Auckland .

Numerous concert engagements have led him to a. to Australia, Finland, France, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Austria, Switzerland and the USA. Regular guest performances brought encounters with top international orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra , the London Symphony Orchestra , the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra , the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and the Dresden Philharmonic . Eckehard Stier has conducted a wide repertoire of more than 80 stage works at stages such as the Hanover State Opera , the Komische Oper Berlin and the Opera National du Rhin . His interpretations of works by Richard Strauss and Richard Wagner are particularly praised by the press and the public. 2016 he conducted Die Frau ohne Schatten by Richard Strauss at the Hessian State Theater in Wiesbaden .

Since 2003 he has recorded music for video games with the London Symphony Orchestra . He now regularly conducts computer game music concerts . In 2013 he conducted the world premiere of the Final Symphony in Wuppertal and in the same year the British premiere in the Barbican Center , also with the London Symphony Orchestra, the first time that this orchestra has ever performed game music . Further performances followed in Tokyo, Aarhus, Stockholm, Tampere, Amsterdam, San Diego, Baltimore, San Francisco and Auckland. Final Symphony is a suite with symphonic music from the video games Final Fantasy VI, VII and X. The arrangements are by Masashi Hamauzu , Jonne Valtonen and Roger Wanamo.
