Eckhard Ruthemeyer (born November 19, 1960 in Hagen am Teutoburger Wald ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He is the full-time mayor of the Westphalian district town of Soest .

Life

Eckhard Ruthemeyer grew up in Georgsmarienhütte . He studied law at the University of Münster and received his doctorate in 1994 on the subject of the basics and limits of local authority urgent decision-making competence in Lower Saxony . He is married and has three sons.

Career

In Georgsmarienhütte, Ruthemeyer was a member of the municipal council from 1986 to 1990 and from 1990 to 1996 he worked in Wolfsburg , where he was the head of the combing department . From 1996 he was first alderman and city treasurer in Soest. On September 12, 1999, he was directly elected as the successor to Peter Brüseke with 52.9 percent of the valid votes as the first full-time mayor of the city of Soest. He was also able to prevail in the next mayoral election in 2004, but only after the runoff election, which he won against the SPD candidate Heinz Rethage with 59.3 percent of the valid votes. In the mayoral election in 2009 he was re-elected with 55.6 percent of the valid votes, in the mayoral election in 2014 after the runoff election with 51.85 percent of the valid votes.
