Eduard Franciscus "Ed" de Goey (also written Ed de Goeij ) (born December 20, 1966 in Gouda ) is a former Dutch football goalkeeper .
Career
Ed de Goey began his career in 1985 with Sparta Rotterdam , after five years he switched to local rivals Feyenoord . During his time at Feyenoord, he missed only eight games, won the 1993 Dutch championship , four times in the Dutch Cup in 1994 and was awarded the best Dutch goalkeeper. In 1997 he moved to up-and-coming Chelsea for around four million euros , making him the Premier League's most expensive goalkeeper at the time. During his first two seasons at Chelsea he was a regular goalkeeper and set two club records in the 1999/00 season, most appearances in one season (59) and few goals against in one season (27). Both records have now been exceeded by Frank Lampard and Petr Čech . When Chelsea signed Carlo Cudicini in 2000 , de Goey was mostly only second keeper, so that he only made 25 appearances in his last three seasons at Chelsea. In 2003 the Dutchman moved to Stoke City , for which he played 56 games by the end of his career in 2006. With a total of 44 appearances in games of the European Cup Winners' Cup , Ed de Goey is the record player in this competition.
In July 2007 he signed a contract as a coach with the Queens Park Rangers , which only lasted until December of that year.
He was 31 times in goal for the Oranje Elftal , and was the first goalkeeper at the Football World Cup in 1994 , where they failed in the quarter-finals against later world champions Brazil .
