Eddie Moore

Eddie Moore (born September 14, 1940 in San Francisco , † May 21, 1990 in Oakland ) was an American jazz musician ( drums ).

Live and act

Moore first appeared with his cousin Merl Saunders . In the early 1960s he played with Richie Crabtree (piano), Buddy Montgomery (vibraphone) and Monk Montgomery (bass) at the Mastersounds , where he took the place of Benny Barth . He had been part of Dewey Redman's quartet since the mid-1960s , with whom he recorded several albums. He then worked in the house band at the Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen, where he often accompanied Dexter Gordon , but also Stan Getz . He settled in New York in the early 1970s and then returned to San Francisco, where he worked with Bobby Hutcherson .

In 1975 he also performed with Sonny Rollins ( Nucleus ). In 1987 he accompanied Mal Waldron with changing saxophonists such as Steve Lacy and Barney Wilen . He can also be heard on albums by Stanley Turrentine , Betty Carter , Woody Shaw , Pharoah Sanders and Ted Gioia . He died of a heart attack while performing.

In memory of Moore, an annual jazz festival was held in his hometown until 2001.
