Edgar Steiner

Edgar Steiner (born June 21, 1933 in Deutsch-Eylau ) is a former German military doctor ( NVA ). He was major general and commander of the military medical section at the University of Greifswald .

Life

As the son of a worker, Steiner completed his schooling with the Abitur , first worked as a nurse in 1951 and as such joined the SED and the German People's Police in the same year . From 1951 to 1954 he studied medicine at the University of Leipzig . From 1954 to 1958 Steiner was a student at the Military Medical Academy SM Kirov in Leningrad . After his return to the GDR in 1958, Steiner was regimental doctor in the motorized rifle regiment 1 until 1959 . Subsequently, he was chief officer for development in the medical administration in the Ministry of National Defense (MfNV) until 1961 . In 1961, he moved to the coordination department of the Ministry of Health as a senior officer for organization . In 1962 he took over the management of this department.

Steiner was promoted to Dr. med. and in 1969 Dr. sc. med. doctorate and in 1971 was appointed full professor .

From 1967 to 1968 he was released from active military service and headed the office of the Minister for Health. From 1968 to 1971 he was department head in the Ministry of Health.

On November 1, 1971, Steiner became Vice Rector and Commander of the Military Medical Section at the University of Greifswald. He kept this position until his discharge from active military service on March 31, 1988. Here he was also appointed major general on October 7, 1982.
