The hamlet of Edisried is part of the municipality of Sachseln in the canton of Obwalden .

geography

Edisried is located southwest of the village of Sachseln between Lake Sarnen and the rising hills of the Arnigrat . The hamlet of Edisried is not an administratively or politically delimited unit from Sachseln, so the boundaries are not precisely defined. In a narrower sense, Edisried consists of the closed built-up area between the Steinibach and the confluence of the Chilchbreiten and Brünigstrasse. The allocation of the Totenbüel district (Lärchenweg and Höfliweg) is not clear. In a broader sense, the individual farms to the north-west of Brünigstrasse to the lake and the slightly higher-lying district of Spis to the south-east belong to Edisried. The district to the west with predominantly commercial use ( Maxon Motor AG , timber construction company, car garages) is counted as part of the hamlet of Ewil .

The Edisriederbach flows through the middle of Edisried. During the storm on August 15, 1997, the flow capacity of the stream was by far insufficient and Edisried flooded. The trees that were swept along also caused great damage. The stream bed was therefore renewed in 2004 and the flow profile increased. The stream previously had a discharge capacity of 18 to 23 m³ / s. In the 1997 damage event, 30 to 49 m³ / s flowed through the stream. After the expansion, the capacity is 45 m³ / s.

Attractions

There are many old houses in Edisried, often in their original state, some of them are listed. The Edisried chapel with the patronage of St. Josef dates back to 1592. The current building was built in 1751/52 and consecrated on September 8, 1753. In 2003 an interior and exterior renovation was carried out.

history

The von Sachseln family comes from the hamlet of Edisried . According to its round seal with the residential tower, this was a free, rural peasant family from the 13th to 14th centuries. They also called themselves von Ödisried or von Edisried. As the main representative of the family of the true Landammann Rudolf von Ödisried . With his sons, the von Sachseln died out around the middle of the 14th century. The residential tower is no longer preserved, a residential house has meanwhile been built on the foundation walls. The original condition of the residential tower was reconstructed in a drawing.

Transport links

The district is located next to Brünigstrasse ( Hauptstrasse 4 ) between Sachseln and Giswil. The Ewil-Maxon stop of the Zentralbahn is Sachseln, about 800 meters from Edisried. The Way of St. James from Stans via Flüeli-Ranft leads through Edisried and Giswil over the Brünig Pass and on to Interlaken . From Edisried one of the two access roads leads to the Älggi-Alp .
