Edmund Kiehnle

Edmund Kiehnle (born April 27, 1924 - † February 13, 2014 ) was the city ​​architect and city ​​archivist in Eppingen and wrote numerous local history writings. He was one of the founders of several home and sports clubs.

Life

After attending primary and secondary schools in Eppingen and graduating from high school in Sinsheim , he was drafted into military service. His arm and leg had to be amputated after being seriously injured in the war . After the end of the war, he studied architecture at the Technical University of Karlsruhe and then worked in the construction department of the Sinsheim district office. In 1950 he moved to Eppingen as a town builder, where he made outstanding contributions to the renovation and maintenance of historic half-timbered buildings . From 1956 he belonged to the international working group for house research. In 1970 he moved to the Eppingen City Archives , which he headed until his retirement.

He was active in the preservation of local heritage and monuments and in 1951 revived the Eppingen local group of the Badische Heimat , from which shortly afterwards the Heimatfreunde Eppingen emerged , whose business he ran from 1972 to 1977. In 1955 he set up the Eppinger Heimatstube in the Old University , which he expanded into a local museum in 1959. He was a member of the local history working group of the Sinsheim district , from which the Kraichgau homeland association emerged in 1972 . He also belonged to the Eppinger Verkehrsverein from 1950 and in 1981 initiated the re-establishment of the Eppinger Handels- und Gewerbeverein.

Despite his severe disability from the war, he was also involved in sports. In 1945/46 he was the district representative of the South German Football Association, headed the boxing department of VfB Eppingen from 1948 to 1950 and was a member of the board of directors of the Eppingen motorsport club from 1952 to 1958. In 1956 he was a co-founder of the Eppingen tennis club and chaired it himself until 1972 before he was made honorary chairman. In 1970 he founded the Eppingen disabled sports group, which he headed for over 30 years.

For his work in the field of local research he was awarded the medal for services to the home of Baden-Württemberg in 1985. In 1986 he received a certificate of honor from the state of Baden-Württemberg for his services to local associations.
