Edmund Stafford, 5th Earl of Stafford KG (born March 2, 1378 , Staffordshire , England ; † fallen on July 21, 1403 , Shrewsbury , Shropshire , England) was an English nobleman.

Life

Edmund was the eighth of nine children of Hugh de Stafford, 2nd Earl of Stafford , and Philippa de Beauchamp . He married Anne of Gloucester on June 13, 1398 , daughter of Thomas of Woodstock, 1st Duke of Gloucester , younger son of King Edward III. , and by Eleanor de Bohun . Anne was the widow of his older brother, Thomas Stafford, 3rd Earl of Stafford, who died in 1392 . Edmund succeeded William as Earl of Stafford on the death of his older brother William on April 6, 1395 . In 1399 he became Lord High Constable of England , also since 1399 Knight of the Bath and 1402 Knight of the Order of the Garter .

Edmund Stafford fell at the Battle of Shrewsbury at the age of 25, fighting on the side of King Henry IV . He was buried in the church of the Augustinian branch in Stafford .

With Anne of Gloucester he had the following three children:

  1. Edmund Mortimer, 5th Earl of March (6 November 1391 - 18 January 1425);
