Career

Edmundo Piaggio began his career in the Argentine city of Lanús , Province of Buenos Aires , at the local association CA Lanús . He stayed there until 1931 when he moved to the renowned capital club Boca Juniors , where he then played in a team with other Argentinian greats of the time such as Roberto Cherro , Francisco Varallo or Pedro Suárez . Piaggio stayed with Boca for two years from 1932 to 1934. During this time he succeeded with the club from the working-class neighborhood of La Bocaonce winning the Argentine football championship in the 1934 season, his last with the Boca Juniors. In the year mentioned, the club finished first in the final table ahead of CA Independiente Avellaneda . Despite the success Piaggio left the Boca Juniors in the same year and returned to his old club CA Lanús, where he played another season in the Primera División and reached tenth place in the table, while the Boca Juniors again won the championship.

In the national team of Argentina Edmundo Piaggio was not used during his career. Nevertheless, the two national coach nominated him Francisco Olazar and Juan José Tramutola into the Argentine squad for the 1930 FIFA World Cup . In Uruguay , however, Piaggio was not used when reaching the vice world championship and was not considered in the national team after the world championship. This makes him one of the few players who were nominated for a soccer world championship , but did not play a single international match. He also experienced a second major tournament, namely the Campeonato Sudamericano 1929 , in which he was in the squad like in the World Cup, but was not used.
